Woodford
Quiet hamlet in the Bude hinterland near north Cornwall coast
Woodford is a small hamlet near Bude in north-east Cornwall, in the farmland a few miles inland from the Atlantic coast. The area around Bude has several such small hamlets and farmsteads spread across the agricultural land between the coast and the Devon border. The hamlet sits in a shallow valley with a stream, and is typical of the rural north Cornwall landscape - dairy farms, hedged fields, and quiet lanes.
Bude, with its two beaches (Summerleaze and Crooklets), shops, and cafes, is within a few miles. The coast path along the north Cornwall cliffs is accessible at several points including Widemouth Bay (about 3 miles south) and Bude’s own cliff walks north toward Northcott Mouth. Stratton, the historic market town adjoining Bude, provides local services.
Holiday accommodation near Woodford is in farm cottages and converted outbuildings, offering lower prices than the beachside properties at Bude itself while remaining within easy reach of the coast. The area is well suited to winter walking when the coastal paths further south get waterlogged, and the lanes around Woodford stay passable year-round. Bude’s Sea Pool, a large semi-natural tidal pool on Summerleaze Beach, is open for swimming throughout the year at no charge.
